In my previous post, we discussed how digital transformation regards Experience / Operations / ICT Infrastructure. On a macroscopic level the whole thing determines the organization’s unique characteristics that in the O-BA are called “competences”. The O-BA standard, reflecting industry’s best practices, fulfills these requirements being based on Value Streams and Capabilities.Ĭapabilities represent the modular components of a business, while Value Streams represent the value creation mechanism that delivers value to the business stakeholders, enabled by those Capabilities. Agile means that it should decompose the business into loosely coupled and highly cohesive components, so that the architecture is modular and changes can follow business opportunities incrementally, quickly, limiting risks and mastering dependencies. Open means that it should look beyond our organization’s boundaries, be centered on customer experience and projected towards its industry ecosystem, besides internal focus. Components and their relationships define architecture, so here comes the “Business Architecture”.ĭigital business requires the Business Architecture practice to be open and agile. In order to answer our business questions we need a discipline that identifies the components of a business and their relationship. So how to approach such complexity of changes without losing sight of the business intents? How to answer the business questions about investment, risk and assurance, responsibilities, relationships, impacts? Part 2 – Business Architecture Enables the Digital Transformation Giovanni, who is leading this effort within Huawei, presented Huawei’s perspectives on Business Architecture coming from best practices. Many of the literary tales were influenced by, and in turn, influenced the oral tales. The literary fairy tale came into popularity in France and Italy during the 17th century, where it was a kind of sophisticated parlor game for adults in aristocratic society. Besides adding colorful detail, dialogue, and transitions, the Grimms eliminated sexual material and added moral observations to many of the stories in order to make them (as they deemed) more suitable for family reading.Īn additional complication relating to origins of fairy tales is the phenomenon of the literary fairy tale-a story based on magical elements and characters written by a single identifiable author. The Grimm brothers published five editions of the Kinder und Hausmarchen, revising each new edition to create more polished literary stories. In fact, Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm collected their stories not from peasants living in the countryside, but from urban middle class women who had heard them from their servants or nurse maids. Because theirs is the best known and one of the earliest collections of stories taken from oral storytellers, it has the reputation as being the source of the "original version" of the stories most often retold in illustrated books and films. Their collection, Kinder und Hausmarchen, contains 277 stories that they transcribed from oral storytellers and re-wrote for publication. As you are selecting fairy tales to share with the students, be wary of getting caught up in a search for an "original version." Most of the European fairy tales in publication today for children are based on the stories collected by the Germans Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm in the 19th century. Guiding QuestionsĪ Note and a Warning about "Original Versions" of Fairy Tales: Students should read and learn to understand fairy tales so that they can better comprehend the structures of literature as well as for the sake of the wonder, pleasure, and human understanding these stories can provide in their own right. The elements and echoes of fairy tales are alive in plays, movies, and books for all ages. Universal human emotions such as love, hate, courage, kindness, and cruelty appear in bold, broad strokes on the canvas of fairy tales.īecause of the worldwide ubiquity of fairy tales, their imagery and tropes have had a vast impact on many different forms of literature. While each culture and geographic region of the world has its own body of folk tales and fairy tales that it considers "its own," certain themes and motifs tend to be repeated across many cultures and time periods. Their plots feature stark conflicts between good and evil, with magic and luck determining the usually happy endings. In 2006, 1,500 plaintiffs split a $295 million settlement with PG&E over chrom-6 groundwater contamination. The Kettleman City waste site has been hammered with multiple violations. California recently proposed the nation’s first drinking water limits on chromium-6, which is likely to be carcinogenic to humans. It was often used to reduce rate of rust in the water tanks used to cool the natural gas that was traveling from Texas to California for PG&E. There are reports that hexavalent chromium (also known as chromium-6, made famous by Erin Brockovich and the town of Hinkley, CA) has seeped into the water supply. All three have had significant environmental issues. So yesterday I drove west from Fresno down the 41 to Avenal – a town of 9,000 that sits less than 5 miles away from the 15 th largest oil field in the state (Chevron Kettleman Oil Field), the Waste Management hazardous waste site and a PG&E gas compressor station.
